FAQ Section —
What is psychodynamic psychotherapy? Psychodynamic therapy explores how past experiences and unconscious patterns shape your current relationships and behaviour. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, it aims to understand the underlying causes of difficulties so that lasting change becomes possible.
What's the difference between counselling and psychotherapy? Counselling tends to focus on specific current difficulties, while psychotherapy is usually a deeper, longer-term exploration of recurring patterns and their roots. I offer both, and the approach we take depends on what feels right for you.
How does couples therapy work? We meet together — you, your partner, and me — in a confidential space where both of you can speak and be heard. My role is to help you understand the patterns that are creating difficulty between you, and to support you in communicating more openly and effectively.
Can couples therapy help if only one of us wants to come? It works best when both partners are willing to engage, but it's quite common for one partner to be more hesitant than the other at the start. If your partner isn't ready to come, working individually can still be valuable — I bring the same depth of expertise in relationship dynamics to individual sessions, and exploring the patterns and dynamics in your relationship from your own perspective can create meaningful change, sometimes even shifting the relationship itself.
Does couples therapy mean trying to save the relationship? Not necessarily. The aim is to help you both gain clarity — sometimes that means rebuilding the relationship, and sometimes it means supporting you to reach a decision that's right for you, whatever that turns out to be.
How many sessions will I need? There's no fixed number. Some people find that 6–12 sessions address what they came for; others find longer-term work more valuable. We would review progress together as we go.
Do you work with LGBTQ+ couples? Yes. I have experience working with a diverse range of couples, including same-sex and cross-cultural couples.
Do you offer online therapy? Yes. I offer sessions via Zoom, which makes therapy accessible if you are unable to travel to my consulting rooms in Notting Hill or Central London.
Do you offer therapy in French? Yes. I am bilingual and can offer individual and couples therapy entirely in French.
How should we start? I suggest we meet for one to three initial consultations, which give us the opportunity to explore your concerns and get a sense of how I work before committing to ongoing sessions.
